Mental Health Care Plans from GP's must be used with a Registered or Clinical Psychologist, or with a Mental Health trained Social Worker who is registered with Medicare. Due to current government legislation, it is impossible for Counsellors to accept Mental Health Care Plans. However, psychologist clients are often required to pay a gap to use a psychologist's services. This fee is often more than the fee charged by a Counsellor. It is also likely that waiting lists will be shorter for Counsellors.
